Style Guide: Shoes of Summer

"Nothing dazzles more then a pair of jeweled sandals likes these by Fibi & Clo. Pair these with a sundress for a chic summer ensemble."

What girl doesn’t want to add another fabulous pair of shoes to her collection? I always look at the changing of seasons as the perfect excuse to stock my closet with a few new must-haves and this summer, it's all about sandals, flats, and wedges of course. Footwear is a great way to incorporate current trends into your wardrobe; it’s an affordable alternative for girls on a budget and thanks to everyone's favorite fast fashion stores, our options are endless.

For boardwalk to beach activities opt for a cute pair of sandals with a fun design or bright color like vibrant neons and creamy pastels. For a casual comfy look ideal for running around your summer job, go with a great pair of flats. During my summer internship, flats were a daily must-have due to my ladder climbing and window display styling; I found flats to be the best way to show off my style while still wearing functional footwear. For dressier occasions try rocking a fabulous wedge, which will provide you with the comfort of a sandal while giving the platform height we all love. Read the full article...

Purple Sunshine :: Summer colors & Jeweled sandals

I love yellow and purple together! One of my favorite complimentary color sets.

My blogger friend, Katherine from Feather Factor, posted an amazing interview with AnaLiza of fibi & clo last week (below). Her story is incredibly inspirational. She turned a hobby into something sustainable – designing and managing her own shoe and accessories company. I consider her sandals jewelry for the feet! They elevate any casual outfit and are great for special occasions. Read the post....

Interview with AnaLiza of fibi & clo

Hi everybody! Today’s interview is with a woman who is pursuing what I think is probably a dream for many of us – her own shoe and accessories company, complete with online boutique and innovative business model.

AnaLiza started fibi & clo in 2009 – a company making truly unique sandals and accessories, all at amazing price points. fibi & clo offered to send me a pair of sandals to try out, which I was very happily accepted – but I was actually even more interested in their business plan! The online + “in home party” concept has seen a lot of traction in recent years with the success of companies like Stella & Dot (Sequoia bet $37M!) I think fibi & clo is a potentially very strong contender in this space and was really excited to have the opportunity to ask AnaLiza some questions about the company, as well as herself. Enjoy! Fibi & Clo offers cute (and wildly inexpensive) summer sandals

Confession—I'm a flats girl. I own hundreds of pairs of shoes (literally), over half of them heels, but for some reason every day I find myself in a flat sandal.

So you can imagine my excitement when I was recently introduced to a stylish, affordable line of summer sandals—not an easy thing to find in mid-July when the shops are filled with shearling and boots and coats galore as fall collections start trickling in. Named Fibi & Clo, the company was started by Texas native AnaLiza Alba. There's a variety of sandals—all flat—that range from bejeweled styles (I love the Cascade) to more simple styles. I think my new everyday shoe will be the criss-cross. And at $45 each, I have a feeling I'll probably stock up on more than two.

AnaLiza Alba visits the North Hampton factory where her shoes are made. The factory is about 90 minutes from London.

New shoe line features comfy, stylish flip-flops

CORPUS CHRISTI — Sparkly flip-flops and strappy sandals were the main attraction at a recent in-home party hosted by a local woman.

“The quality is amazing,” said hostess Hilda Lathrop. “These are just great shoes.”

The shoes are the hobby of AnaLiza Alba, a 1997 Carroll High School graduate who now works in the advertising industry in New York. In May, she launched her Fibi and Clo shoe line, holding in-home trunk shows around the Lone Star State in her spare time.

“I love the trunk shows because I get so many ideas,” Alba said. “I get so much feedback and inspiration from all the customers."

Michael Leen, who owns a fashion brand and store called Operations in New York City, is helping her launch her line.

“She travels a lot for shoe design inspiration and most recently went to Buenos Aires,” Leen said.

Alba found factories in London and India to produce her designs, which center on the idea of a glammed-up flip-flop, not a rubber or beachy looking shoe. They sell for about $40 a pair.

Since launching her line earlier this year, Alba has developed other styles with straps across the back and with ankle straps. She usually has 15 to 20 styles on display at a time, and adds new styles often.

“Bridesmaids have been special ordering them because they look so super with the dress but (are) still so comfortable,” Alba said.

Her latest addition was her sister Becky Alba’s idea: She now carries her two best-selling styles in girls sizes.

Fibi and Clo not only has brought her home, it also has brought her closer to her family. Her mom takes inventory and her dad hauls merchandise to the shows.

“My mom is the soul of the operation and my dad is the arms and legs, and I’m the passion,” Alba said. “I couldn’t do it without them.”

For now, the trunk shows are the only way to get the shoes locally, but Alba hopes to have a Web site up soon where people can place orders.
